A warp yarn shortage led to a set of inadvertently asymmetrical dish towels—which led to the design of this shawl.
Designer Sue Anne Sullivan truly loves the creative process. She sits down with a cup of coffee, launches Fiberworks software, and happily enters her design playground—working with ideas for threading, tie-ups, and treadlings, keeping what she likes and tossing what she doesn’t.
She enjoys the adventure and serendipity that come with experimentation. Sometimes, only one small portion of a drawdown will delight her. In that case, she takes that teensy bit of magic and designs around it. Often, the final weaving pattern that emerges is quite distant from where she began.
The color inspiration for this shawl came from the natural and often wild beauty of the sky, trees, mountains, lakes, and ocean in the lovely Puget Sound region of Washington state.

Width in the reed: 24".
Woven length: (measured under tension on the loom) 80".
Finished size: after washing: 21" × 75" plus 3" fringe.
