While Maggie Byckalo and her husband are both Canadian, she was born in the Netherlands and Bill is the child of Ukrainian immigrant parents. To celebrate his background, Maggie designed and wove him a scarf with the colors of his heritage.
She used Tencel for the warp and Zephyr, a combination of wool and silk, for the weft. The Tencel gives the scarf its fluidity, the wool its warmth, and the silk its shimmering luster. The two colors of Tencel and the heathery Blueberry Zephyr work beautifully together.
She plans to make her next scarf using Charcoal Zephyr and Black Tencel with gold and white stripes for our favorite football team, the Tiger Cats. You can be patriotic with other colors such as red, white, and blue for the USA or Holland, or weave one to celebrate your favorite sports team.
