Memories of an unusual knitted scarf led designer Marcia Toms to design a woven version.
Before Marcia was a weaver, she picked up a cute, inexpensive machine-knitted scarf at a local shop. The machine-knitted scarf had two features that stood out: a chunky flower on the front, and an extra piece of material sewn on the back that made a tunnel. One end of the scarf could tuck through the tunnel, keeping it closed without needing knots or a wrap around her neck. Recently, she thought about how re-creating that tunnel scarf with doubleweave. Not having to knot or wrap the scarf means you can weave it much shorter than a traditional scarf. She chose Tencel for the warp and a pebble-weave draft to give the scarf some texture. For those with four-shaft looms, She also included a version that uses plain weave for the tunnel’s layers.
