The body of this lace-edged blanket is based on Elizabeth Zimmermann’s garter-stitch baby blanket. Knitted in thick wool, it produces a proper blanket, but I dressed it up a bit, knitting it in Shetland jumper-weight wool and adding a lace edging from Barbara Abbey’s book Knitting Lace. The finished object could begin its life as a baby or lap blanket, then be washed and severely blocked to bloom into a lovely shawl, as shown here.
