NOTES
• The vest is worked in rows in one piece to the underarms, then divided for working the upper back and fronts separately to the short-rowed shoulders. The front bands are worked at the same time as the fronts.
• This vest is designed to have boxy, slightly cropped styling. The two smallest sizes have straight sides, and the eight largest sizes have A-line shaping to taper the body and ensure the correct fit at the shoulders.
• Choose a size with about 6" to 10" (15 to 25.5 cm) of positive ease around the lower edge, which should hit at the high hip, and that is about 2½" to 3½" (6.5 to 9 cm) wider than your crossback measurement across the shoulders.
• To find your crossback measurement, enlist a friend to measure across your upper back from shoulder point to shoulder point, or lay out a shirt with set-in sleeves that fits you well at the shoulders and measure from seam to seam.
• The front armholes and shoulder shaping are taller than the back’s, with the extra length extending up and over the wearer’s shoulder line and down to meet the back. The offset shoulder join is indicated by dotted lines on the schematic; the side length indicates the shoulder fold.
• The schematic shows the tapered upper body shape of the larger sizes, but the two smallest sizes are worked straight to the shoulders; the neckband extensions are not shown.
• The twisted stitch panels can be worked from charts or written instructions. Panel A is used for the right front and left back, and Panel B is used for the left front and right back.
