You’ll find some special features on these special bags: buttonholes woven on the loom, kumihimo straps, and options for hemmed or braided and fringed finishes.
At a conference, designer Katzy Luhring was enamored with the little purse that a friend had made from a workshop sample. She came home with the mission to make a bag that would carry just what she needed, without extra bulk. For weave structure, she looked to one of her favorites—turned taqueté, which requires only four shafts and is woven with just one shuttle! She used three gray yarns in the warp to tone down the other colors she’d settled on; those grays appear or disappear in the design depending on how closely their values match those of the other warp colors. When the warp was on the loom, she auditioned various weft colors and decided that dark gray helped tone down the bright colors further and made a soothing fabric.
