Autumn mornings in New Hampshire can be chilly if not downright cold, making those first steps out of bed more than a bit brisk. To relieve her poor cold feet, designer Kate Kilgus wanted to weave a small rug to place near her bedside without spending a lot of money on materials.
She repurposed some well-loved flannel pillowcases for an extra-cozy rag-rug weft. She decided on a canvas-weave structure and hoped to see flecks of color from the pillowcase fabric pop up in the finished piece—she was not disappointed.
She braided the rug’s fringe to suit her preference, but you could opt for a hemmed finish if you have small pets that might be interested in nibbling on the ends. This design could be easily adapted to weave a larger rug; you’d just need a few more pillowcases.
