Knit a Miniature Sweater

Spinner and knitter Madeline Keller-King created a pattern for an adorable miniature sweater for a time when she didn’t have the energy or ability to tackle a large project and it’s just bite-sized enough that I knew I could make my own version in a weekend. With spring just around the corner, I decided to use a fresh pastel color, so I chose Brown Sheep’s Nature Spun in Tropical Surf. Once I really got going, I decided to add a few minor alterations, such as a lace trim and beaded neckline. And instead of knitting the full-length sleeves and finishing the cuffs with a k1/p1 ribbing, I decided to add a couple of extra stitches (and stop a few rows short) to give the sleeves a flared look.

Materials

• Yarn: Brown Sheep Nature Spun Fingering, (100% wool), 310 yd (283 m)/1.76 oz (50 g) skein: 1 skein of Tropical Surf
• Needles: Size 1 (2.25 mm) (see Notes). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
• Notions: Marker (m); stitch holders (see Notes); tapestry
• needle.
• Gauge: 44 sts and 58 rnds = 4" in St st.
• Finished Size: 1½" body width, 3½" from cuff to cuff, 2" tall.
