Forget twisted fringe, braids are a classic finishing technique to try.

Many weavers default to twisted fringe when finishing fringed handwovens, but what about braids? They are a wonderful, elegant way to finish rugs, runners, and other handwoven cloth, and they can also be used for bags, closures, and so much more.
Even better, there are more braiding options than the basic braid most of us think of. Adding one more (or more) strands to your braid can increase the wow factor, and you can even try round braids.
Today, we’ll cover the basic three-strand braid and give you instructions for two more styles: a four-strand flat braid and a four-strand round braid. We’ve included projects that use these techniques and a link to the kumihimo skill guide for yet another braid to try!
