Waffle-Weave Bath Mitts

About this Project

The deep texture of waffle weave and absorbent cotton yarn combine to make soft and scrubby luxury bath mitts. While designer Angela K. Schneider was experimenting with Bluegrass Mills 6/2 cotton, the waffle-weave sample seemed perfect for this use, so she wove off a little extra and sewed one up. Her face had never felt so clean! Light, neutral colors give a clean, calm look, but these mitts are easily customized to your own bath colors, and they’re the perfect accompaniment to your favorite handmade soap.

Equipment
4-shaft loom, 8" weaving width; 10-dent reed; 1 shuttle; 1 bobbin; inkle loom (optional).

Yarns
Warp: 6/2 cotton (2,520 yd/lb; Bluegrass Mills; The Woolery), Paper White, 340 yd.
Weft: Towels: 6/2 cotton, Dusty Miller, 280 yd.

Dimensions
Width in the reed: 7⁷⁄₁₀".
Woven length: (measured under tension on the loom and including header between towels and wrap) 48"
Finished size: (after wet-finishing and sewing) two bath mitts, about 5½" × 9" each.
