Many weavers are afraid of linen because of its reputation as a difficult fiber to use. Don’t be afraid of it; it is wonderful! And when you weave these mug rugs, try both decorative variations of hemstitching: ladder and trellis.

STRUCTURE
Plain.
EQUIPMENT
2- or 4-shaft loom, 5" weaving width; 10-dent reed; 1 shuttle.
YARNS
Warp: Bockens 16/2 linen (2,700 yd/lb; Eugene Textile Center), #2030 Light Yellow, 150 yd.
Weft: 16/2 linen, #2030 Light Yellow, 80 yd.
OTHER SUPPLIES
Size 2 knitting needle or wooden skewer.
WARP LENGTH
100 ends 1 1/2 yd long (allows 2" for take-up, 24" for loom waste).
SETTS
Warp: 20 epi.
Weft: 20 ppi.
DIMENSIONS
Width in the reed: 5".
Woven length: (measured under tension on the loom) 28".
Finished size after washing: 4 mug rugs, 4 1/4" × 4 1/4" each including 1/2" hems.
Use your stash yarns, and leftover odds and ends, to make these colorful and functional mug rugs.
