Designer Annette Swan Schipf had long admired waxed cotton totes and jackets. The waxing gives a water-resistant finish, making a jacket suitable for damp outside wear. So naturally, she started to wonder if she could can wax handwoven cotton fabric. After a quick look online Annette found many articles and products for making her own waxed cotton. The result is a fabric that is both breathable and water resistant—a highly advantageous combination.
For the fabric for this jacket, she used 5/2 cotton for a sturdy fabric, and a color-and-weave pattern to add visual interest while keeping floats to a minimum.
