Knit this pair of placemats, inspired by Elizabeth Laird Mathieson’s pattern in her 1947 book, The Complete Book of Knitting.

These lacy knitted placemats are based on a pattern in Elizabeth Laird Mathieson's 1947 book, The Complete Book of Knitting. Though Mathieson’s pattern doesn’t specify the eyelet pattern motif, it appears to be a variation of traditional fern lace, and is similar to Barbara G. Walker’s "Diagonal Fern Lace" from A Treasury of Knitting Patterns from 1968.
This classic stitch pattern is fairly easy to memorize but challenging enough to keep you engaged. Perfect for on the go knitting, the placemats are designed in a hemp/cotton blend that makes these placemats easy to launder. Add a handknitted touch to your own table or have the perfect housewarming gift for a special someone.
